Art and medicine through the lens of my life
Welcome to Flying Penguins by Hongkongfong, a monthly email newsletter.
Flying Penguins was initially a (paper! gasp!) zine that I started when I was 14. Various iterations of it followed throughout high school, college, and yes, even one issue was published in medical school. It contained cartoons, short stories, and poetry reflecting my thoughts on current events. I had, at one point, twenty (!) subscribers.
Now, with the rise of the internet and the fall of my teenage blog, Flying Penguins lives again as a weekly newsletter. It will contain the same loved content as before, with the addition of news articles that I found interesting and new writing from the point of view of an attending surgeon.
Carmen Fong is a writer. surgeon. artist. athlete. lover and a fighter. pisces. you can be everything at once. Stony Brook Children’s Lit Fellow 2019 #SCBWI. She lives in the Big Apple with her partner and two cats, Gabriel and Moses.
Her work has been published in The Apothecary and Resistance Poetry, as well as multiple journals throughout high school and college (if you have a copy of one of these things, please send me a picture!).
